Parchment Paper Substitute

Parchment paper is a cellulose-based paper coated with silicone, non-stick, water and heat resistant.

These properties are very versatile and very important in some recipes. It can be used to roll out casseroles and baking trays to reduce browning and stickiness.

It was used for making bags and cooking fish, poultry, cookies and vegetables. If you line the dishes with parchment paper, you will have to wash fewer dishes because the dishes will come out of the oven very clean.

However, it is not always worth having parchment in the kitchen. Sometimes you have a tight budget or you may unexpectedly leave parchment. In this case, don’t worry, there are other parchment substitutes you can use, and some you may even have on hand. Read on to find them.

1. Grease-resistant paper

Like parchment paper, waxed paper has a thin layer of wax on each side, which is non-stick and resistant to moisture. Waxed paper is cheaper than parchment paper.

It can be used to line the counters when decorating food, cakes or to close the counters when measuring dry and dirty objects.

The disadvantage of using waxed paper as an alternative to parchment is that it cannot withstand high temperatures. Therefore, waxed paper cannot be used for baking or baking.

The wax in waxed paper can melt or catch fire when exposed to high temperatures. You can replace baking paper with baking paper only when it is not too hot for the purpose for which you want to use it.

I wrote here an in-depth comparison of parchment to wax paper.

2. Aluminum plate

Aluminum foil is a good alternative to parchment paper as it is cheaper, more flexible and transmits heat better. Can be used to sort pans while cooking for easy cleaning.

Like parchment paper, aluminum foil can be used to cook fish, poultry and vegetables in the microwave. You can use it to wrap warm dishes or meat and sandwiches that you want to freeze for a while.

The downside to aluminum foil is that it does not stick. You may notice the aluminum foil sticking to your food after cooking. In many places, you can use foil as an alternative to parchment, don’t use it too often.

3. Silicone baking boy

Silicone mats are made of silicone, heat resistant and non-stick. Silicone mats are commonly used in pans and dishes because they can withstand higher temperatures than parchment paper.

Silicone mats are great for baked goods such as sandwiches and cookies. One of the disadvantages of using silicone mats is that they are expensive.

You have to buy different sizes for different projects as you can’t bend or cut them to fit different sizes. Despite the high cost, silicone mats can be used for many years.

4. Fat

If you don’t have all of the above options, you can choose the old method. Use a lubricant on clams or mussels. In this case, the fat can be olive oil, cooking spray, or coconut oil.

You can use a piece of paper to spread the fat in a pan or baking trays. The type of fat you should use depends on your taste and purpose.

After applying the fat to the pan, sprinkle the dough, stirring, until the flour adheres evenly to the pan.

5. Shopping bags

Shopping bags are also useful if you want to use them for food packaging. But never use them for thermal purposes. These papers catch fire easily and should not be used as a substitute for parchment paper for heat related activities.

Decision on alternatives to using parchment paper

There are many other great alternatives to parchment paper that I did not include, for example butcher’s paper, but as I mentioned in this article, I hope these sources are helpful as they work better or better than using parchment paper.
