How to test small engine ignition Coil with Multimeter (Procedure)

1. Connect the positive terminal of the battery to the positive terminal of the ignition coil. 2. Connect the negative terminal of the battery to ground. 1. Connect the positive terminal to the positive terminal of ignition coil. 2.Connect the negative terminal to ground.

Testing the Coil’s Primary Resistance

To check the primary resistance of the ignition coil, connect the multimeter leads across the two terminals of the coil. The reading on the meter should read about 1 ohm. If the reading is higher than 1 ohm, replace the ignition coil. To check the primary resistance of ignition coil, connect the multi meter leads across the two terminals positive and negative of the coil. The readings on the meter should read around 1 ohm. If the reading is higher than one ohm, replace the coil.
